Aston Villa have announced the signing of former West Ham United goalkeeper Anna Leat on a two-year deal.
FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from Aston Villa this afternoon. Leat joins The Villans on a free transfer after recently leaving former club West Ham United.
The 21-year-old stopper is a senior international for New Zealand and she has made a handful of appearances for The Ford Football Ferns.
At club level, she has spent one year playing in the Barclays Women’s Super League after joining former club West Ham United last summer. Leat largely played a role of understudy to first choice goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold but she did make four appearances for The Hammers in all competitions.
After completing her move to Aston Villa, Leat said “Aston Villa is an incredible club with a lot of history and it is an honour to join.
“The women’s game, and this league is in such an exciting place and I can’t wait to be a part of this team’s journey.”
Leat becomes Aston Villa boss Carla Ward’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window. The Villans have also added Simone Magill, Anna Patten, Danielle Turner and Natasha Harding so far this summer.
