Former Manchester United full-back Martha Harris has joined Barclays Women’s Championship club Birmingham City on a free transfer.
FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the deal via an official club press release from Birmingham City just a short time ago. Harris has signed an initial one-year deal with the Blues with the option of a further year.
Harris spent four years with former club Manchester United, helping the club to promotion to the Barclays Women’s Super League in 2019. The defender made 15 league appearances for The Red Devils in that championship-winning season. Harris featured regularly for Manchester United in their first season in the top flight before finding minutes hard to come by. She should now have the opportunity to play some regular football with new club Birmingham City.
After completing her move to the Blues, Harris said “I’m delighted to be here, I know a few of the girls already. I am ready for this season and hopefully, we can go straight back up.
“Knowing what sort of club Birmingham are and their ambitions, when (Darren) Carts and Jo (Potter)
spoke to me, I knew I wanted to be here.”
Harris becomes Birmingham City’s second signing of the summer following the recent addition of utility player Siobhan Wilson. The Blues look to be showing some ambition ahead of the new season given the quality of their signings so far.
