New Liverpool signing Koivisto hoping for right-back role

New Liverpool signing Emma Koivisto says that she hopes to occupy a right-back position for the club in the upcoming season.

The 27-year-old Finnish international is extremely versatile. She is often labelled as a left-back but Koivisto has also operated on the right side of defence and in midfield positions.

When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time, the player said that she is hoping to occupy the right-back position for new club Liverpool.

“I’m quite pleased with the next step of my career and I feel honoured to represent a club like Liverpool,” Koivisto said.

“I haven’t been with them yet so it is hard to say what role I will play for them but hopefully, I will play as a right-back.”

Commenting further on her versatility, Koivisto said that she just wants to play football regardless of which position, although right-back is her favoured role.

She added “I prefer playing as a right-back but I am happy playing wherever I’m needed on the pitch, if I just get playing time I’m happy.

“I’ll play anywhere. Maybe I wouldn’t put myself as a goalkeeper but anywhere else.”

Finland and Koivisto will see their UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 campaign come to an end on Saturday. The player will enjoy a short break before linking-up with her new club teammates.

“I will have a few days after the tournament to rest mentally most of all,” Koivisto said. “After that, I am really excited to join Liverpool.”

Koivisto is expected to feature for Finland in their final UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 game against Germany on Saturday evening.
