Chelsea’s Magda Eriksson says that Sweden will be looking to put in a stronger performance when they play Portugal in their final UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 group match on Sunday.
Sweden struggled to see-off a spirited Switzerland side at Bramall Lane yesterday in their second group match. They needed a 79th-minute Hanna Bennison wonderstrike to claim both a 2-1 win and three points.
While the likes of Germany, France and England have all shone at the tournament, Sweden are yet to find their groove. Defender Eriksson says that Sweden are in a great position to qualify but they will look to improve their overall performance levels next time out.
“This is definitely a good position for us to be in, having four points from two very difficult games,” Eriksson told FAWSL Full-Time.
“It feels really good but we know that we can improve our game even more. What we want to do in the next few days is look at our games, analyse ourselves and see if we can play even better on Sunday.
“Of course, points-wise, it is just really good to have things in our hands.”
Eriksson went on to say that the second goal was massive for Sweden and it could prove to be a real key moment for the team.
She said “It is a massive moment, it was such an important goal for us as a team. I think we will look back on that goal and realise how critical it was.
“She (Hanna Bennison) is such an important player for us, we know that we can put her in and she will bring so much energy and so much creation to our game. I’m really glad for Hanna that she scored that goal.”
Sweden’s final group match against Portugal takes place at the Leigh Sports Village at 5pm on Sunday.
