Liverpool goalkeeper Charlotte Clarke has joined FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division club West Bromwich Albion on a season-long loan according to reports on The Reds’ official club website.
The 21-year-old joined Matt Beard’s side from third tier club Derby County back in December. Clarke provided reliable cover for first-choice goalkeeper Rachael Laws in the second half of last season.
Clarke made her Liverpool debut in a goalless draw with Sunderland in the group stage of the FA Women’s Continental League Cup. While the keeper recorded a clean sheet over the 90 minutes, she ended up on the losing side following the penalty shootout with the Wearsiders causing a small upset.
The young keeper also went on to make an appearance for Liverpool in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup while she made her Barclays Women’s Championship debut at Lewes on the final day of the 2021/2022 season.
With Liverpool having signed former Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Eartha Cumings this summer, Clarke’s first team opportunities looked set to become even more limited this season. In addition to Cumings, The Reds still have Laws on their books while Canadian stopper Rylee Foster will return to fitness at some point in the distant future. Youngster Clarke could not be guaranteed game time and it has therefore been deemed to be in her best interests to go out on loan.
Clarke will train with her parent club when not in action for West Bromwich Albion.
