Teenage forward Goodwin pens new Leicester City deal

Leicester City forward Missy Goodwin has signed a new deal with the club according to reports on The Foxes’ official website.

The 19-year-old Redditch-born attacker joined Lydia Bedford’s side in the January transfer window. Goodwin signed an initial short term deal with Leicester City but she has impressed enough to earn herself a contract extension.

Goodwin made six appearances for The Foxes in last season’s Barclays Women’s Super League with four of those outings coming as starts. The forward has spent her entire career to date in the Midlands, she has been on the books of both Birmingham City and Aston Villa prior to her move to Leicester City.

After signing her new deal with The Foxes, Goodwin said “I am very happy to have signed a new contract here and I can’t wait to get going again. Last season was tough, but we retained our WSL status, and we can only improve from here. We want to climb the table as much as possible this year.

“As a team, we want to show everyone that we are really kicking on – we don’t want to be in the same position as last season. For me, minutes are really important for a young player, but you have to earn them. Hopefully I can impress on the training pitch and do that.”

Goodwin is the first Leicester City player to sign a new deal with the club this summer.
