England legend Jill Scott has announced her retirement at the age of 35.
FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the player’s retirement via a media update from The Football Association.
Scott has called time on her playing career after lifting the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 trophy with England last month. The midfielder is the Lionesses’ second-highest appearance maker of all time with 161 senior caps while she has scored 27 goals. Only former England teammate Fara Williams has represented the Lionesses on more occasions than Scott.
At club level, Scott started out with hometown club Sunderland before moving to Everton where she won her first domestic honours, the FA Women’s Premier League Cup and the Women’s FA Cup. In 2013, Scott joined Manchester City where she spent almost a decade. The midfielder was a treble winner with The Cityzens in 2016 while she won seven trophies with the club in total. Scott made 194 appearances for Manchester City in all competitions.
Scott left Manchester City at the end of last season. A couple of clubs are thought to have been interested in acquiring the veteran’s services for the new season, however, Scott has determined that the time is right to pull the curtain down on what has been a glittering career both for club and country.
