Arsenal have now sold more tickets for their upcoming North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur than the current attendance record in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
The Gunners have this evening confirmed that ticket sales have reached 38,500, meaning that there is a real chance that the Barclays Women’s Super League’s all-time attendance record of 38,262 will be smashed. The two North London rivals meet at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday 24 September.
The current attendance record also came in a North London derby as Arsenal won 2-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in November 2019. Spurs held their own for over an hour in front of a huge crowd before late goals from Kim Little and Vivianne Miedema handed the visitors the derby day bragging rights.
The first North London derby of the 2022/2023 season promises to be one of the closest contests yet with Spurs having grown into life as a top flight club. Arsenal have dominated the derbies in recent years but Spurs now have a unique identity and are beginning to understand what it takes to collect points in the big grudge matches. Arsenal will be the red-hot favourites but the game will certainly be a real contest.
