Goalkeeper Emily Ramsey says that she is excited to learn and grow under the guidance of Brian Sørensen at Everton this season.
The 21-year-old has joined The Blue Girls on a season-long loan deal from their Barclays Women’s Super League rivals Manchester United.
Ramsey is one of a handful of talented young players to join Everton this summer. New manager Sørensen has a good record developing young talent and he looks set to continue his ethos on Merseyside.
When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time in a recent Everton media session, Ramsey said that she is excited to learn from Sørensen as she looks to develop her game further during her time at Walton Hall Park.
“It’s really exciting, that (Sørensen’s philosophy) works for me perfectly because I want to learn and grow this year and expose myself to different situations,” Ramsey said.
“This is a great opportunity for me to do that and to learn a new mentality and style of play under a new coach. For a lot of the girls here, there really is that attitude to learn as well as to win.”
The quality of goalkeeping in the Barclays Women’s Super League is improving year-on-year making it more difficult than ever before for young goalkeepers to establish themselves in the professional game. Ramsey went on to say that while it is a challenge, she is excited by the competition for gloves.
She said “It’s tough but it is great to see such a high standard of goalkeeping in the league.
“I’ve already had the opportunity to work alongside a lot of goalkeepers and learn off some really good ones whether that be at United or Birmingham last year. Obviously, with England I’ve worked with the likes of Sandy (MacIver) and Ellie Roebuck.
“It’s really exciting. It is a challenge for me personally but hopefully, I’ll just continue to take it on and I’ll be fine.”
