Bristol City have confirmed the news that defender Brooke Aspin is currently recovering from an infection.
The Robins released an official club statement this morning revealing the reasons behind Aspin’s recent absence.
The 17-year-old has received treatment and support from both Bristol City’s medical team and the Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. The Barclays Women’s Championship club have not put any expectation on Aspin’s anticipated return to good health.
Aspin was promoted into The Robins’ first team squad last summer ahead of their first season back in the second tier. The player previously impressed at academy level as part of the SGS College programme. Despite her inexperience at senior level, Aspin went on to enjoy a hugely successful 2021/2022 campaign in which she made 26 appearances for Bristol City in all competitions. The defender is arguably one of the brightest young players on the club’s books.
Bristol City have been unable to call upon Aspin’s services so far this season, however, Lauren Smith’s side have still been able to record some impressive results. The club have won both of their matches so far and are only separated from Barclays Women’s Championship leaders Crystal Palace on goal difference.
The Robins continue the new season at London City Lionesses on Sunday.
