Manchester City complete signing of West Ham United midfielder Hasegawa

Manchester City have completed the signing of midfielder Yui Hasegawa from West Ham United.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from Manchester City this evening.

Hasegawa has signed a three-year deal with The Cityzens and she joins the club just 24 hours after Manchester City lost the services of influential midfielder Keira Walsh to Spanish giants Barcelona.

The 25-year-old Japanese international spent one season with West Ham United in which she made 17 appearances for the club in the Barclays Women’s Super League. The midfielder scored against new club Manchester City in West Ham United’s 2-0 victory at The Academy Stadium last season.

On the international stage, Hasegawa has collected 58 senior international caps for her country. She made her debut for Japan back in 2017.

After completing her move to Manchester City, Hasegawa said “It has been a big dream of mine to come to Manchester City to play football, so I am very happy to be here.

“When I played against City last season, I really liked the team’s playing style, so when I got this opportunity, I immediately wanted to join the club.

“People see me as an attacking player, but I also want to be known for my defending and unpredictability. I may be small, but I am strong, and I want to show that.

“I’d like to create as many goals and assists as possible for the team this season to help us to hopefully enjoy a lot of success.”

Manchester City are scheduled to start the new season at home to Arsenal on Sunday evening.
