The transfer market has been a hub of activity this summer with all 12 Barclays Women’s Super League clubs making some solid additions to their squads.
More than 80 incoming transfers have been completed with a number of eye-catching additions having been made. As expected, a number of overseas stars have come into the league, giving the Barclays Women’s Super League its greatest multi-national image to date.
Ahead of the new season, FAWSL Full-Time have assessed the transfers completed by Barclays Women’s Super League clubs and we have highlighted three players who we feel will make a real impact in the division in 2022/2023.
Katja Snoeijs (Everton)
A prolific goalscorer for club and country, Dutch forward Snoeijs is maybe a player who has been previously overlooked by the Barclays Women’s Super League’s elite. Their loss could be Everton’s gain with The Blue Girls having acquired the services of one of Europe’s most clinical strikers.
Snoeijs hasn’t really had the opportunity to showcase her talents in a real top team yet but she can’t fall off the radar for any longer. The forward has netted more than 100 goals across six seasons at club level and has hit double figures in each of those campaigns. Her record is just as good for The Netherlands, she has bagged nine goals in 13 outings. The move to Everton could provide the springboard to stardom that she deserves.
Yui Hasegawa (Manchester City)
When Manchester City lost the services of star midfielder Keira Walsh just hours before the scheduled closure of the summer transfer window, they could have made a hurried decision in bringing in a replacement. What actually happened is that they signed one of the most talented midfield players in the Barclays Women’s Super League in Yui Hasegawa.
The Japanese international dazzled for West Ham United last season with her calmness, quick feet and pure skill on the ball winning her widespread praise. With all due respect to The Hammers, Hasegawa is capable of stepping it up a level and the move to Manchester City will give her that opportunity. The midfielder is not Walsh, she is a completely different talent, but she is one who could make an impact at The Academy Stadium which in-turn will win over the hearts of the fans.
Maya Le Tissier (Manchester United)
If there is one young defender that many a club would have liked to sign it is Maya Le Tissier. Former club Brighton & Hove Albion did an excellent job in retaining the services of their academy graduate until Manchester United came calling for her services this summer.
Le Tissier has been a rock at the back for Brighton & Hove Albion in recent years and if she can replicate that form for new club Manchester United, we could be talking about the defender performing in England senior squads pretty rapidly. Le Tissier can add another dimension to the Manchester United defence and the club could become that little bit harder to beat in some of the big games which might help them finally qualify for the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
