The Barclays Women’s Super League will finally get underway this weekend with elite football now given the green light to return following the recent death of Queen Elizabeth II.
Following the death of Her Majesty on Thursday, the opening round of Barclays Women’s Super League matches were postponed. Tottenham Hotspur’s home fixture against Manchester United, Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge return against West Ham United and the blockbuster clash between Manchester City and Arsenal were amongst those matches to be cancelled.
The Barclays Women’s Championship also saw its weekend fixture card cancelled. The league was scheduled to host the third round of matches following the start of the season midway through August.
The 2022/2023 Barclays Women’s Super League season will begin with Arsenal’s home clash with Brighton & Hove Albion on Friday. Manchester United will then take on Reading on Saturday lunchtime before the final four games are played on Sunday with Chelsea’s visit to Liverpool being the standout fixture.
The Barclays Women’s Championship will have a full round of fixtures on Sunday. Charlton Athletic’s home fixture against Birmingham City and Crystal Palace’s match against Southampton are two of six mouth-watering games which are on offer.
Fans should visit their clubs’ official media channels for ticketing details for this weekend’s matches.
