Everton manager Brian Sørensen says that he is expecting fluid football from his side when they travel to West Ham United this weekend.
The Blue Girls travel to The Chigwell Construction Stadium to take on The Hammers on Sunday afternoon. The match will see new boss Sørensen take charge of Everton for the very first time.
Sørensen will not be the only new face in the dugouts this weekend. West Ham United also have a new manager in Paul Konchesky while both clubs have been very active in the summer transfer market. Despite a summer of change, Everton boss Sørensen is expecting both sides to play with some control and he wants to see some fluid football from his team.
“West Ham are in a similar position to us in terms of having to rebuild a bit,” Sørensen said when speaking in the pre-match press conference.
“From our side, the way that we want to do things….it’s going to be fluid, I don’t expect it to be a big transition game. We will be on the ball for some periods, they will be on the ball so hopefully, it won’t be a big transition game, there will be control from each side.
“Let’s see what they come with in terms of how they are going to set up with their new players, it’s hard to figure that out having not seen them play yet. From our side, we are prepared to expose ourselves against them and we will get an idea of what they want to do but we have to be ready for everything.”
Sørensen’s project at Everton is very much a long term one, however, he believes that the basics of what he wants to do have already been embedded into the team.
He added “We are there in the larger picture of it, it’s just the finer details that we have to be better at. I think you can see how we want to attack and how we want to defend, we have already seen that in our pre-season games. For us, the relationship of the players has to be better and the small details in the style of play that we have but I’m sure that you will be able to see what we are aiming to do on Sunday.”
Everton’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against West Ham United kicks-off at 3pm on Sunday afternoon.
