Tottenham Hotspur head coach Rehanne Skinner says that this afternoon’s opponents Leicester City cannot be taken lightly.
The two clubs kick-off their respective campaigns at The King Power Stadium. Spurs and Leicester City endured contrasting fortunes last season with The Lilywhites flirting with European qualification and The Foxes battling relegation.
Leicester City will begin the new campaign as the favourites for the drop but Spurs boss Skinner believes that opposition number Lydia Bedford is doing a good job and the East Midlands side cannot be taken for granted.
“She’s galvanised a squad that plays with a lot of grit and determination,” Skinner said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “They all know their jobs and she is just going to make them as hard to beat as possible, that gives them a platform to grow from.
“There are similarities to when I came here. There are areas where the team will work really hard to achieve and I don’t think they’re a team that you can take for granted by any stretch of the imagination. They’ll be itching to get on the pitch and being at home, they’ll want to put on a good show for the fans that they have in The King Power.
“It’ll be a tough game. They are a hard-working group of players and nobody can discount that.”
Spurs could have an early reunion with former player Josie Green at The King Power Stadium this afternoon and Skinner was full of praise for the midfielder.
The Spurs boss said “She’s a really hard-working, professional individual and I’m really pleased for her. It sounds like it’s a really good fit for her when you hear what’s gone on in pre-season. It gives her the opportunity to play more minutes within her environment there so that’s a real positive for her and what she really needs.”
Tottenham Hotspur’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Leicester City kicks-off at 3pm.
