Spurs confirm ACL blow for forward Simon

Tottenham Hotspur forward Kyah Simon is set to spend a lengthy period on the sidelines with the player having sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.

The Lilywhites confirmed the news earlier today via a post on their official club Twitter account.

Simon sustained the injury as Tottenham Hotspur defeated Barclays Women’s Super League rivals Reading 2-1 in an FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup tie at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Sunday. The forward was replaced by teammate Ellie Brazil in the 90th minute of the match following a nasty collision.

The player’s injury has now been assessed by the Spurs medical team and the club have confirmed the bad news that Simon has torn her ACL. The Australian international is now expected to spend at least nine months on the sidelines.

Simon joined Spurs in summer 2021 following a spell playing her football in The Netherlands with PSV. The forward netted three goals in 14 matches in the Barclays Women’s Super League last season. The player has made three appearances for Spurs in all competitions this season but it looks like her campaign could have come to a very premature end.

Spurs are expected to issue further updates on Simon’s fitness at various stages of her rehabilitation programme.
