West Ham United have confirmed the news that midfielder Jess Ziu and defender Lucy Parker have both sustained significant injuries.
The Hammers provided updates on both players’ fitness via their official club website earlier today.
It has been confirmed that Republic of Ireland international midfielder Ziu has ruptured her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). The injury was sustained in West Ham United’s recent FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup group match at London City Lionesses. Ziu will require surgery on her injury and is unlikely to be seen in competitive action again this season.
Defender Parker was also injured in the same match. The full-back has sustained a significant muscle injury and she has started her rehabilitation. Parker’s injury forced her to withdraw from the England squad after recently receiving her first senior call-up. No timeframe has been indicated for Parker’s recovery but West Ham United are hoping to have the player back soon.
West Ham United have won one and lost two of their opening three matches in this season’s Barclays Women’s Super League. The Hammers have not picked up as many points as they would have hoped but their performances have been very bright. The East Londoners continue the new season at Aston Villa on Saturday.
