‘We wanted to bounce back’ – Shaw reacts after Manchester City’s first win of the season

Manchester City forward Khadija Shaw is hoping that the team can build some momentum after recording their first win of the season.

The Cityzens defeated Leicester City 4-0 at The Academy Stadium yesterday, ending the club’s long wait for their first three points. Shaw netted a brace while Lauren Hemp and Yui Hasegawa were also on target for Gareth Taylor’s side.

When speaking to Manchester City’s media team after the match, forward Shaw said that the club were pleased to bounce back and that the focus is now on building some momentum.

“We wanted to bounce back,” Shaw said. “It is time to get points on the table.

“We knew that this game was very important and we wanted to use it to build some momentum going forward into next week.”

Shaw went on to say that she is feeling confident after netting her fourth and fifth goals of the season. Her personal goalscoring successes are as a result of keeping it simple.

She said “I’ve been working hard, I’ve been pushing myself and I’ve been doing the things that I know I am capable of doing. If I continue to keep it simple and work hard, I know that the goals are going to come.

“Overall, it is a team performance and we have just got to keep going.”

Manchester City return to action on Saturday when they travel to The Breyer Group Stadium to face Tottenham Hotspur.
