Chelsea defender Jess Carter has signed a three-year contract extension with the club.
The Blues announced the news via an official club press release just a short time ago. Carter will now remain a member of the Chelsea squad until summer 2025.
Chelsea signed Carter in 2018 following a five-year spell with Birmingham City. The player has forced her way into the team and played in all-but-one of The Blues’ 22 matches in last season’s Barclays Women’s Super League as they retained the league title. There have been major improvements in Carter’s on-field performances and general fitness in her time in South West London and both the player and Chelsea are now really reaping the rewards.
On the international stage, Carter has made a handful of appearances for England during current head coach Sarina Wiegman’s time in charge. She was a member of the squad which won the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022.
After signing her new contract, Carter said “I’m very excited and proud to extend my contract at Chelsea for three more years.
“I’m looking forward to continuing my development with the team, helping them to become even more successful.”
Carter has won eight domestic trophies in her time as a Chelsea player, including three Barclays Women’s Super League titles. The UEFA Women’s Champions League is the one trophy missing from her collection. Carter and Chelsea begin a new assault on Europe’s biggest club prize in their next match against Paris Saint-Germain on Thursday.
