PREVIEW: Paris Saint-Germain v Chelsea

Chelsea will begin their involvement in this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League with a group stage fixture against Paris Saint-Germain at the Stade Jean-Bouin on Thursday evening.

The Blues have dominated the English domestic game in recent years but a first European title remains the one thing that has got away from the South West Londoners.

Like Chelsea, Thursday’s opponents Paris Saint-Germain are also chasing a first UEFA Women’s Champions League title. The French club have been runners-up on two occasions but are yet to net European club football’s biggest prize.

The Parisians go into the match without long term absentees Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Paulina Dudek while Lydia Williams and Bénédicte Simon are also out. Head coach Gérard Prêcheur will be hoping for an impressive performance from his side after a slightly underwhelming start to the new season.

Paul Green takes charge of Chelsea alongside fellow assistant Denise Reddy with manager Emma Hayes still recovering from her hysterectomy. Green confirmed in the pre-match press conference that attacker Fran Kirby is unavailable due to illness. The Blues remain without Jelena Čanković through injury and Melanie Leupolz who is on maternity.

The UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage fixture between Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea kicks-off at 8pm on Thursday evening.
