PREVIEW: Sheffield United v Southampton

Sheffield United and Southampton will be keen to push on following their bright starts to the new season when they meet at Bramall Lane this afternoon.

Just one point and one place separates the two sides after five rounds of matches. Southampton are in fifth place with eight points while Sheffield United sit in sixth after collecting seven points. Both teams have some great potential and can beat anyone on their day.

Sheffield United go into their latest match off the back of a 3-1 home defeat to Bristol City last weekend. Good squad availability has been a factor in The Blades’ solid start and head coach Neil Redfearn is expected to have a fully-fit squad going into the latest game other than long term absentee Sophie Barker.

Southampton arrive in South Yorkshire unbeaten in the league since opening day. The Saints held their nerve to record a 1-0 home victory over Birmingham City in their last match on Monday evening.

Head coach Marieanne Spacey-Cale is expected to again be without midfielder Phoebe Williams and attacker Sophia Pharoah for her side’s latest match.

The Barclays Women’s Championship fixture between Sheffield United and Southampton is scheduled to kick-off at 2pm. Admission is available on the day with tickets priced at £7 for adults and £5 for concessions.
