PREVIEW: Durham v Crystal Palace

Durham and Crystal Palace will be hoping to build some momentum in the Barclays Women’s Championship when they meet at Maiden Castle this afternoon.

The Wildcats have taken seven points from an available 15 so far this season while Crystal Palace have already lost three matches despite being one of the favourites for promotion. Neither side can afford to drop further points in the North East if they want to enjoy a successful league season.

Durham go into the match having beaten Barclays Women’s Super League giants Manchester United on penalties in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup in midweek. The Wildcats lost top scorer Saoirse Noonan to an injury late on in that match and she is unlikely to feature this afternoon. There is no update on the fitness of goalkeeper Tatiana Saunders and captain Sarah Wilson while long term absentee Lauren Briggs remains sidelined.

Crystal Palace arrive at Maiden Castle under a little bit of pressure after losing their last three matches in all competitions without scoring a goal. The Eagles’ chances of success this season have not been helped by forward Rianna Dean’s injury and the player is again set to be sidelined this afternoon. The fitness of Isabella Sibley is not known.

The Barclays Women’s Championship fixture between Durham and Crystal Palace kicks-off at 12pm. Fans can purchase their tickets on the gate at Maiden Castle.
