Manchester City in a good place ahead of Everton fixture says Taylor

Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor says that his players are in a good place ahead of this weekend’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Everton at Walton Hall Park.

The Cityzens go into the contest on the back of a five-match winning streak while they have netted 18 goals during that run of games.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Manchester City boss Taylor said that the trip to Everton won’t be easy but his players are in a great place.

“We are going to try (and carry on the momentum),” Taylor said. “It is always a tough game at Walton Hall Park and Everton have done fairly well under their new manager. It is never easy but we have highlighted a few areas that we might be able to exploit.

“We haven’t had much time (to prepare), the same as Everton, coming back off the international break and we’ve lost a day with the game being brought forward 24 hours. We lose that capacity to do more but I think that the players are in a good place. It is just about getting back into the norm (after the international break) and trying to get a result.”

Everton have long-term ambitions of gatecrashing the top four in the Barclays Women’s Super League and Taylor believes that The Blue Girls have a chance of achieving their goals with time.

He said “It is a big club, Willie (Kirk) did a fantastic job when he was there and they have had a transition with a couple of managers last season.

“With Brian (Sørensen), he seems like a decent guy and a decent coach. He needs time to be assessed and I think they need time to try and achieve that aim.

“They need stability now and I’d say that about most clubs, stability is really key. If you feel like you have got the right people there in charge, give them the best support that you possibly can and then anything is possible.

“It’ll take a couple of windows for him to get his team the way he wants it. It takes a little bit of time, investment and managing but if they can get that right, they’ll have as good an opportunity as everyone else.”

Manchester City’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Everton kicks-off at 3pm on Saturday afternoon.
