Liverpool manager Matt Beard has confirmed that the club will be looking to do some business in the January transfer window and he has identified a number of potential targets.
The Reds have steadily grown back into life in the Barclays Women’s Super League, gaining more and more strength and momentum as the season has gone on.
January provides clubs with the opportunity to bring in some new faces for the second half of the season and Liverpool boss Beard says that he will be doing business providing that the right players are available for transfer.
“We will be looking to bring players in,” Beard confirmed. “I think it is an important window now that we have got ourselves in a good position but we will only bring in new faces if the right player is available. We’ve got numerous targets that we are looking at so hopefully, we can make additions.
“Like we said in the summer, we felt that we have good experience and quality this year. If I look at Hannah Silcock’s progress, she was unbelievable on Wednesday night against Manchester City.
“We’ve got a good squad here, we would like to improve it but we will see what happens.”
Beard did not go on to discuss the areas that he might hope to strengthen next month, however, it would be no surprise to see more attacking competition brought in. Liverpool have relied heavily on the goals of forward Katie Stengel so far this season and with last year’s top scorer Leanne Kiernan out for the long-term, The Reds are a little light in that area. Beard’s reference to the development of youngster Silcock may mean that he is satisfied with the options that he has in the central defensive area.
Liverpool end the calendar year with a Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Leicester City at Prenton Park on Sunday.
