Arsenal forward Caitlin Foord has seen one of her goals for the Australian national team named the Goal of the Year.
The 28-year-old has scored six times for the CommBank Matildas during this calendar year and it is one of her most recent strikes which has stood out.
The Australian public have been voting for their CommBank Matildas Goal of the Year and after the votes were counted, it has been revealed that forward Foord’s first strike in November’s 4-0 victory over Sweden at AAMI Park in Melbourne has won the accolade.
With Australia 1-0 up against the Swedes, Foord received a pass for Kyra Cooney-Cross 30 yards from goal. The Arsenal forward turned before racing towards the Swedish 18-yard box. Foord then cut inside and unleashed a wonderful curling effort which found the top corner of the net. The player capped-off a fine performance with Australia’s fourth goal late on in the match.
Foord has ended 2022 in excellent goalscoring form for the Australian national team, she has netted five goals in the CommBank Matildas’ last four internationals. Foord will be hoping to build on her goal tally at international level in 2023 with Australia now looking ahead to a home FIFA Women’s World Cup next summer.
