Bayern Munich goalkeeper Leitzig joins Leicester City on loan

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Janina Leitzig has joined Leicester City on a loan deal which will run until the end of the season.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the transfer via an official club press release from Leicester City this afternoon.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper came through the youth setup at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim before going on to feature for the first team. Leitzig joined current club Bayern Munich in 2021. The youngster made 21 appearances for Bayern Munich in all competitions last season but she has struggled for game time with the German club this term.

On the international stage, Leitzig has represented Germany at various youth levels up to and including Under-20 level.

After completing her loan move to Leicester City, Leitzig said “It feels good to be here. The facilities are great. I’m really excited to train, I’m excited for the upcoming games and excited to be part of this team.

“I have lots of experience in Germany and I hope that will be useful here in England. I have watched some games – the league is very physical and the quality is good too.”

Leitzig could go straight into the Leicester City squad for Sunday’s fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion at The King Power Stadium.
