Sørensen wants Everton to deliver at home in the second half of the season

Everton manager Brian Sørensen wants his side to deliver a string of good performances at home in the second half of the season.

Just six of The Blue Girls’ 15 points that they have collected so far this season have come from matches played at Walton Hall Park. That being said, Everton have already played all of the ‘top four’ on home soil other than Arsenal.

Everton recorded just their second league win of the season at home last weekend when they defeated Reading 3-2. The Merseyside club have a favourable run of opponents at Walton Hall Park in early 2023 and manager Sørensen wants his side to begin to make their home ground a fortress.

“That’s the plan (to make Walton Hall Park a fortress), when we are at home, we want to deliver to the best of our ability,” Sørensen told FAWSL Full-Time. “I said to the girls that we only have Manchester United (away) in three weeks and until the end of April, we are not playing any of the top four.

“It is up to us to showcase our talents, be the better team. We have a lot of home games so we just need to keep grinding, keep working and put on performances because it is in our own hands to do well.”

Everton’s next Walton Hall Park opponents are West Ham United on Sunday. The Hammers won the reverse fixture 1-0 back in September but Sørensen believes that his side were in control for large parts of that game and that they have grown in the last four months.

He said “We think that we had the majority of chances in the away game but we lost 1-0. We controlled the game but it was the very early stages (of the season), we were a new team. West Ham were similar, they had also recruited a bunch over the summer.

“Both teams have evolved over the season and I think that everybody is more invested in our style of play now. Offensively, we are getting much better, we are creating many more opportunities. West Ham are a little bit different the way that they play, they are more ruthless in the way that they look at things and that’s football.

“For us, it is about seeing whether we can keep the momentum going. We are at home again and we had a good game against Reading, we controlled it in large parts but they scored from a couple of set-pieces and we have been looking at that. West Ham also scored against us from a set-piece so I think it’s going to be a tough game for us. Hopefully, we can take home advantage and the fact that we are in good form, win the game and that’ll put us in a good position.”

Everton’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against West Ham United kicks-off at 1pm on Sunday afternoon. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
