Manchester United defender Jess Simpson has signed her first professional contract with the Barclays Women’s Super League club.
FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Red Devils this afternoon.
Simpson becomes the second young player to sign professional terms with Manchester United today. Goalkeeper Safia Middleton-Patel also committed her future to the club earlier this afternoon.
Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner sees Simpson as an exciting prospect for the future. The teenager has been on the fringes of the first team squad and she went to Malta with the club for their recent warm weather training camp. Simpson has been a regular for The Red Devils at WSL Academy League level in recent years.
After signing her first professional terms at Manchester United, Simpson said “I’m super-excited to sign professional at this wonderful football club – It’s so special. It’s been such a good journey here, starting from 11 years old with the academy. It’s been my dream since being a little kid to play for Manchester United, and I’m living that dream now.”
Simpson has been getting some senior playing experience under her belt with FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division club Burnley this season. The youngster signed dual-registration terms with The Clarettes in the first half of the campaign.
