Chelsea midfielder Kateřina Svitková will be out of action for a number of weeks after undergoing knee surgery.
The Blues provided an update on the Czech Republic international midfielder’s condition via an update on their official club website this afternoon.
The 26-year-old has not been seen in the Chelsea squad in recent weeks with the player having struggled with her injury. After an assessment by the Chelsea medical staff, Svitková was sent for surgery and she will now spend a period in rehabilitation. The Blues have opted against providing a timescale for the midfielder’s recovery but she will miss a number of key matches including the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup final and fixtures in the latter stages of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Svitková joined Chelsea last summer after leaving her former club West Ham United. The player has provided manager Emma Hayes with another useful option in midfield, although playing opportunities have been hard to come by. Svitková has made just four appearances in all competitions for the South West Londoners so far, scoring two goals.
Chelsea will continue their season without Svitková when they face Arsenal in a Vitality Women’s FA Cup fifth round tie at Kingsmeadow on Sunday 26 February 2023.
