Former Leicester City boss Morgan named new Sheffield United head coach

Sheffield United have appointed former Leicester City manager Jonathan Morgan as their new head coach.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from Sheffield United this afternoon.

Morgan becomes The Blades’ permanent new head coach, three months on from the departure of their former boss Neil Redfearn. Morgan moves to Sheffield United after most recently taking charge of FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division club Burnley.

In his previous spell coaching in the Barclays Women’s Championship, Morgan helped guide former club Leicester City to the league title in 2020/2021. He led the club into the Barclays Women’s Super League but parted company with The Foxes in November 2021 after a difficult start to the season. Morgan will now be hoping to help develop a youthful Sheffield United side in the second tier.

After signing with The Blades, Morgan said “I’m delighted to take up the opportunity. When they came in and we had the conversation, I knew straight away it was the right opportunity, not just for myself, but for my family and I knew I could give something to the club as well.

“To be here now at Sheffield United is something I’m really proud of and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do together.”

Morgan will take charge of The Blades for the first time when they travel to Hayes Lane to face Crystal Palace on Sunday 26 February 2023.
