England will play this summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup co-hosts Australia in a friendly during the April international window.
FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official press release from The Football Association this evening. The match has been listed as an Alzheimer’s Society International as a mark of The Football Association’s two-year partnership with the charity.
The fixture will take place on Tuesday 11 April 2023, five days after England face Brazil in the 2023 Women’s Finalissima at Wembley Stadium connected by EE. Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium will play host to the Lionesses’ clash with Australia, nine months on from staging matches at the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022.
After the Australia fixture was announced, England head coach Sarina Wiegman said “We are always looking for different challenges and we are really happy to play two more strong non-European teams in Brazil and Australia in April. They will both be competitive at the World Cup, and Australia will give everything to impress because they are going into a home tournament with big expectation. They will want to show they are in good shape for the finals.
“We know Australia have players at the highest level, so for us it is another opportunity to see where we stand in our preparation for the World Cup. It will also be very special to play them at Brentford as it was a great EURO stadium. We want to create more excitement for our fans as we prepare for what we hope will be another memorable summer.”
Tickets for England’s fixture against Australia will go on sale to My England Football members from 12pm on Tuesday 21 February 2023. Tickets will go on general sale at TheFA.com/tickets from 3pm on Wednesday 22 February 2023.
