Brighton announce shock departure of head coach Scheuer

Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Jens Scheuer has left his position by mutual consent after a little over two months in the role.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news this evening via an official club press release from The Seagulls.

Scheuer was only appointed Brighton & Hove Albion’s new head coach at the end of December, ending the club’s two-month search for a replacement for former boss Hope Powell. The German coach was in charge of Brighton & Hove Albion for just six matches, his only victories coming in the domestic cup competitions.

After Scheuer’s departure was announced, Brighton & Hove Albion’s technical director David Weir said “Together with Jens, we’ve not reached this decision lightly and while we appreciate he has given his all in the role, this feels like the right step forward for all parties involved.

“We would like to thank Jens for his efforts and on behalf of everyone at the club, we wish him well for the future.”

Brighton & Hove Albion’s assistant head coach Amy Merricks will again step up to become interim head coach and she will be assisted by Perry Northeast. The pair will oversee The Seagulls’ Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Chelsea on Wednesday evening.
