Manchester United defender Thorisdottir’s season ended by foot injury

Manchester United defender Maria Thorisdottir has seen her season brought to an early end by a mid-foot injury.

The Red Devils provided an update on Thorisdottir’s injury via a post on their official club website earlier today.

Thorisdottir sustained the injury during Manchester United’s 3-1 victory over Lewes at The Dripping Pan in the quarter-finals of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup last weekend. The Norwegian international defender started the match in Sussex but she left the field just after the hour mark after sustaining her injury.

The Manchester United medical team have assessed Thorisdottir’s injury and it has been determined that her season is over.

Speaking following today’s announcement, Thorisdottir said “I’ve been knocked down many times before, and I will again bounce back even stronger and better than ever.

“Tough times don’t last, but tough people do. See you next season, Reds.”

Thorisdottir has also confirmed that she will miss FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 action with Norway this summer. The nation will play tournament co-hosts New Zealand, Switzerland and The Philippines in the group stage of the competition. Norway were FIFA Women’s World Cup champions in Sweden back in 1995 but they have failed to reach the same heights in the six tournaments that have followed.
