Aston Villa will be hoping to cause another upset against top four opposition when they welcome Chelsea to The Poundland Bescot Stadium for a Barclays Women’s Super League fixture on Sunday evening.
The Villans have really pushed on this year and they have proved that they can mix it with the very best. Carla Ward’s side have run latest opponents Chelsea close on multiple occasions over the last 18 months and the next step is to take something from the Barclays Women’s Super League champions.
Aston Villa head coach Ward continues to juggle injuries in her squad ahead of her side’s latest match. The Villans remain without the services of long-term absentees Remi Allen, Meaghan Sergeant and Simone Magill while Rachel Corsie and Emily Gielnik will now also spend a period on the sidelines. Defender Sarah Mayling will miss the Chelsea game with a minor knee injury while Evie Rabjohn is doubtful.
Chelsea manager Emma Hayes continues to be without the services of Millie Bright, Kateřina Svitková and Fran Kirby while the game will come too soon for Pernille Harder’s return. The current condition of defender Ève Périsset and midfielder Melanie Leupolz is not known after the pair sustained injuries in the club’s UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final, second leg tie against Lyon on Thursday night.
The Barclays Women’s Super League fixture between Aston Villa and Chelsea kicks-off at 6.45pm on Sunday evening. Card only turnstiles will be in operation at The Poundland Bescot Stadium for fans wishing to buy tickets on matchday.
