PREVIEW: VfL Wolfsburg v Arsenal

Arsenal will be hoping to take another step towards the UEFA Women’s Champions League final when they face VfL Wolfsburg in the first leg of their semi-final tie at the Volkswagen Arena on Sunday afternoon.

The Gunners remain the only English club to taste European glory. Arsenal won the old UEFA Women’s Cup back in 2007 after beating Swedish club Umeå IK 1-0 over two legs in the final.

VfL Wolfsburg head coach Tommy Stroot will be without the services of German international forward Alexandra Popp this weekend with the player not fit enough to play a part. The She-Wolves also continue to be without Merle Frohms, Lena Lattwein and Marina Hegering through injury.

Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall must deal with stretched resources if his side are to qualify for another European cup final. The Gunners remain without long-term absentees Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema while influential defender Leah Williamson is now out of action until at least early 2024 after rupturing her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) against Manchester United in midweek. Kim Little, Caitlin Foord and Lina Hurtig are also not fit to feature this weekend.

The UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final, first leg fixture between VfL Wolfsburg and Arsenal kicks-off at 2.30pm on Sunday afternoon.
