England will face Scotland during the League Phase of the UEFA Women’s Nations League with the draw for the inaugural competition having taken place just a short time ago.
The tournament begins later this year and will replicate the format that we have seen introduced in the men’s game in recent times.
The draw for the League Phase of the inaugural UEFA Women’s Nations League took place this lunchtime and England have been placed in a challenging group. The Lionesses will play neighbours Scotland while head coach Sarina Wiegman will also come up against her former employers The Netherlands. The final team in the group are UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 quarter-finalists Belgium.
The League Phase draw split nations into 12 groups of four and one group of three. England were placed into Group A1, the first of four Groups in the ‘A’ category. Teams will play each other home and away in a group format with the usual points system being in place. The four Group A winners will then contest knockout matches to determine the overall champions.
Full details of how the inaugural UEFA Women’s Nations League will work can be viewed on the tournament’s official website.
The League Phase matches will take place across international windows between 20 September 2023 and 5 December 2023. The knockouts will then be staged in the February international window which will include finals and promotion and relegation matches.
