Chelsea manager Emma Hayes says that her side are continuing to focus on themselves going into the final weeks of the season.
The Blues are currently occupying second place in the Barclays Women’s Super League table but they can leapfrog Manchester United into top spot should they defeat West Ham United in their latest fixture at The Chigwell Construction Stadium on Wednesday evening.
When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Chelsea boss Hayes said that she is not looking at the league table and that her players are fully-focused on their upcoming tasks.
“I know the dressing room and as far as we are concerned, we are in control of what we want to do and that’s all we focus on,” Hayes said.
“I wasn’t even aware that we could go top tomorrow if we win until someone highlighted it to me yesterday.”
Latest opponents West Ham United are now winless in nine matches in all competitions. Paul Konchesky’s side have not won since late January but Hayes is taking nothing for granted.
She said “They’ve probably got one of the lowest budgets in the league and it’s easy to comment that they should do better.
“What I know is that when you play a team that has lost that much, you should always be wary of their threats. Nobody likes losing that much and I’m sure that Paul (Konchesky) and the players don’t.
“Every time that we play them, it is always a really physical, tough match-up, so I expect it to be the same.”
Chelsea’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at West Ham United kicks-off at 8.15pm on Wednesday evening.
