Sørensen wants Everton to improve at both ends of the pitch against Arsenal

Brian Sørensen wants to see an improvement at both ends of the pitch when his Everton side face Arsenal at Walton Hall Park this evening.

The Blue Girls were beaten 7-0 by Chelsea at Kingsmeadow in their last Barclays Women’s Super League fixture 10 days’ ago. While Chelsea were the favourites to win that match, Everton did not put in a performance that was up to their usual standards.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of this evening’s fixture against Arsenal, Everton boss Sørensen said that his side can improve at both ends of the pitch.

“We have to play the same type of football but we need to be more clinical,” Sørensen said. “We actually set up some of the same situations that Chelsea were in during the first 12 minutes but we didn’t capitalise on it. We need to do that; football is about scoring goals.

“Defensively, we need to get stuck in much more and we need to work together as a unit. There were too many gaps in-between us and we need to put pressure on the ball earlier.

“Those are the things that we have practised, so hopefully, we will see a change in development there.”

Despite being without three or four key players, Everton’s latest opponents Arsenal still have slim hopes of winning the Barclays Women’s Super League title and Sørensen offered praise to opposite number Jonas Eidevall for the job that he has done this season.

He said “He has done excellent with the players that he has had available. He has had to make a number of changes and it is a different Arsenal team than we faced last time both in shape and the way that they do things.

“He’s done well. It is not easy to lose so many top players and then still be able to compete but they are able to do that. They will do everything that they can to keep that Champions League spot and that’s why I think we will play against a highly-motivated team.”

Everton’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Arsenal kicks-off at 6.15pm.
