Tottenham Hotspur forward Kit Graham paid tribute to the club’s fans following the 4-1 victory over Reading at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium yesterday.
Fans were present in all four sides of the stadium, helping to generate significant noise in support of the players. The game formed part of a first-ever top tier double-header with some of the men’s fans staying behind to support the club’s women’s team.
When speaking in the post-match press conference, Graham hailed the fans for their efforts over the 90 minutes.
“It’s a bit cliché but they really are the 12th player when you need them,” Graham said. “Our fans have been great all season and today just proves the backing that we’ve got from them. The atmosphere that they created really helped and we got the win, so credit to them.”
Graham came off the bench to net Spurs’ fourth and final goal of the contest. It was the player’s first strike since returning to the team following an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury. Graham said that it was an amazing feeling to get back amongst the goals.
She said “As players, you picture moments like that. It never feels as good as it does in the moment.
“I’m really glad to be back on the pitch doing what I love and if goals come, they come. I’m trying not to put too much pressure on myself but today, it fell into my path and thankfully, I put it away. It was a great feeling.”
The victory ensures that Spurs will be a Barclays Women’s Super League club again next season, something which has left Graham delighted.
“It feels amazing,” the forward said. “Obviously, we knew that it’d be a tough game against a tough team but I thought we completely dominated to be honest.
“I never felt like we weren’t in control of it. It was a great way to secure staying in the league for next year.”
Tottenham Hotspur end the 2022/2023 campaign at West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.
