Reading boss Kelly Chambers says that her side must give everything against Chelsea this weekend and they cannot afford to have any regrets.
The Royals are on the verge of being relegated to the Barclays Women’s Championship. Reading must beat Chelsea and hope that relegation rivals Leicester City slip up against Brighton & Hove Albion to survive.
When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Chambers said that her side have to give their all this weekend and that there is no time for regrets.
“I’ve been saying to the players for a couple of games that we’re still in it”, Chambers said. “However that has come about, we are still in the fight.
“It’s an opportunity but we have to leave everything out there which is what we didn’t do against Tottenham. We are where we are for different reasons but honest conversations have happened and we need to make sure that we leave everything out there; we can’t come off disappointed that we haven’t given our best which is how we felt against Tottenham.”
Reading’s opponents Chelsea are likely to need a positive result to win the Barclays Women’s Super League title and Chambers knows the size of the task that awaits her side.
She said “We need to make sure that we are defensively organised and make it as difficult as possible for Chelsea. We can’t hide from the results and performances that they’ve had in the last four games, we know that we are facing a tough test.
“The girls have worked hard this week, we’ve got to make sure that we leave everything out there. We haven’t got time for people to just be jogging around the pitch, not giving 100% effort or working hard enough. We need players out there who are going to step up. We can’t come off the pitch like we did on Saturday questioning if we could have given more.”
Reading’s final Barclays Women’s Super League fixture of the season against Chelsea kicks-off at 2.30pm on Saturday afternoon. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
