Aston Villa head coach Ward pens new two-year deal

Aston Villa head coach Carla Ward has signed a two-year contract extension which will keep her at the club until summer 2025.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Villans this morning. The deal also includes an option to extend by a further year.

Ward joined Aston Villa in summer 2021. She guided the club to a ninth-place finish last season before smashing a number of records this year as her side have finished in fifth, their highest-ever league ranking.

Under Ward, Aston Villa have developed an attractive style of football with The Villans very much taking up a licence to thrill. The club could go from strength-to-strength over the next two seasons with Ward being one of the most important pieces of the jigsaw.

After securing Ward’s services for two more seasons, Aston Villa’s head of women’s football, Lee Billiard, said “This is tremendous news for Carla and the Club. We have continued to see substantial improvement in the team under her leadership, both individually and collectively, and this contract extension will allow her to continue progressing and building on our strategy to try to develop young players while putting Aston Villa at the heart of the women’s game in England at this exciting time.”

Aston Villa complete the 2022/2023 Barclays Women’s Super League season with a fixture at Arsenal this afternoon.
