Birmingham City goalkeeper Thomas signs new deal

Birmingham City goalkeeper Lucy Thomas has signed a one-year contract extension with the club.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from the Blues this afternoon.

Thomas joined Birmingham City last summer after leaving former club Coventry United. The player was an ever-present for the Blues, keeping 11 clean sheets in her 22 outings in the Barclays Women’s Championship.

The 23-year-old is viewed as one of the very best goalkeepers in the Barclays Women’s Championship and Birmingham City will be able to call on Thomas again in 2023/2024 after securing her services until next summer.

After signing her new contract, Thomas said “I’m delighted. The place feels like home now, so I’m really happy to be staying.

“We ended the season on a really positive note and I think the team’s in a really good place to push for promotion next year.”

With Thomas in goal, Birmingham City challenged for promotion back to the Barclays Women’s Super League until the bitter end this season. The Blues ended the campaign with a seven-match winning run, eventually losing out to champions Bristol City by just a single point. Another promotion bid will be on the agenda next season.
