Everton boss Sørensen aiming for better injury record in 2023/2024

Everton manager Brian Sørensen says that he wants the club to have a better injury record to help them kick on next season.

The Blue Girls ended the campaign in sixth position in the Barclays Women’s Super League table, a vast improvement on their 10th-place finish in 2021/2022.

Everton’s position could have been further improved if they had enjoyed better luck with injuries. The Merseyside club were missing a few players for long periods this season, leaving the squad short of options at times.

When speaking in an Everton press conference, manager Sørensen said that he is happy with this season’s sixth-place finish but better squad availability will be key to continuing to build.

“It’s fine,” Sørensen said when commenting on his side’s league position. “If we can add players in the right positions, it will help us.

“We have struggled with injuries in the squad. Katrine Veje played 90 minutes for the first time in a long time (against Manchester City) because she’s been out, Elise (Stenevik) has been out almost full-time and Karen (Holmgaard) is struggling.

“We have too many to manage and hopefully, we can get over that so that we have more players available. We have been struggling at the end of the season with Jess (Park), Gabby (George) and Aggie (Beever-Jones) out.”

Sørensen went on to say that he wants greater depth in the Everton squad and that is something that the club are working on.

“Yes, we have to have that,” he said when asked about greater squad depth. “We need to bring in players who don’t get so many knocks and niggles all the time so we need to manage them. We are working on that.”

Everton ended the 2022/2023 season with a 3-2 victory over Manchester City at The Academy Stadium on Saturday.
