Barcelona ‘very lucky’ to have England midfielder Walsh says Graham Hansen

Barcelona forward Caroline Graham Hansen says that the club are lucky to have a player like Keira Walsh in their ranks.

The Catalan giants signed Walsh from Manchester City last summer after the player had dazzled for club and country over a lengthy period.

Walsh is set to appear in her first UEFA Women’s Champions League final on Saturday afternoon when Barcelona take on VfL Wolfsburg at the Philips Stadion in Eindhoven. When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Walsh’s teammate Graham Hansen was full of praise for the impact that the player has made since swapping England for Spain.

“Keira is a fantastic player, we are very lucky to have her,” Graham Hansen said. “She has a very good vision for the game and she has adapted fantastically to how we play. It isn’t easy to come to Barca and play as a six, everybody knows that, but she has taken to that role with ease.

“Her passing, her understanding of the game to put herself in positions to win the ball and make us keep attacking has been amazing.”

It is not just Walsh’s on-field qualities that have impressed Graham Hansen. The forward also hailed her teammate for the character shown in the dressing room this season.

She said “As a person, she has been fantastic to have in the dressing room. She is a very good person who gives a lot to the team away from the pitch.

“That is very important to create a good team vibe and to work for each other. In a big game like this, the team need to be connected, not only off the field but on the field. She has been a good person to get into this team.”

The 2022/2023 UEFA Women’s Champions League final kicks-off at 3pm (BST) on Saturday afternoon.
