Highly-rated Bristol City full-back Powell signs new deal

Highly-rated Bristol City full-back Ella Powell has signed a two-year contract extension with the club.

The Robins announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

Powell has been one of Bristol City’s most consistent performers during their time in the Barclays Women’s Championship. The Welsh international has played in 39 of the club’s 44 matches in the second tier, scoring one goal. Powell offers head coach Lauren Smith plenty of versatility with the player able to play at full-back or more advanced higher up the pitch.

The youngster is deserving of the opportunity to play in the Barclays Women’s Super League and she will get that with Bristol City next season.

After signing on again at Ashton Gate, Powell said “I’m really excited for the challenge of stepping up to the WSL. Looking back on last season, we’re all filled with pride for what we achieved, but we’re now ready to test ourselves at the next level.

“Since I was young, I’ve always wanted to be able to say that I’m a WSL player and now I’ve got the chance to do that with a brilliant group of girls.

“I reached the 50-game milestone with Bristol City last season and the club has felt more and more like home with each of those games so I’m really happy to be able to call this my home for another two years.”

Powell follows Emily Syme, Chloe Mustaki, Jasmine Bull, Ffion Morgan and Jesse Woolley in extending her contract with Bristol City this summer.
