Lewes goalkeeper Sophie Whitehouse has signed a contract extension with the club for the 2023/2024 season.
The Rookettes announced the news this morning via a post on their official club website.
Whitehouse joined the Sussex club on a free transfer last summer after leaving former club Bristol City. The Republic of Ireland international has established herself as Lewes’ first-choice goalkeeper this season. Whitehouse kept seven clean sheets in 22 league outings for The Rookettes in 2022/2023, earning herself plenty of plaudits in the process.
The 26-year-old’s performances for Lewes have attracted the attention of Republic of Ireland head coach Vera Pauw. She called Whitehouse up for the April international window and the player was named on the bench for a friendly fixture against the United States in Missouri. Pauw has been pleased with what she has seen from Whitehouse and the keeper has been selected in her preliminary squad for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023.
Whitehouse is a hugely important player for Lewes and the club will be delighted to have secured her services for another season. She will be hoping to build on her impressive performances so far and help the club kick on in the Barclays Women’s Championship in 2023/2024.
