Experienced midfielder Rachel Furness has signed a one-year contract extension with Bristol City.
The Robins announced news of their latest contract extension via a post on their official club website this evening.
Furness joined Bristol City from Liverpool in January. The player initially signed a short-term deal with The Robins and she has made a positive impact for Lauren Smith’s side. Furness made 11 appearances for Bristol City as they won this season’s Barclays Women’s Championship title. The Northern Ireland international has now lifted the Barclays Women’s Championship league trophy in back-to-back seasons.
Furness’ top level experience will be hugely important to Bristol City as they return to the Barclays Women’s Super League following a two-year absence. It is no surprise that the club have thrashed out a new deal with the player.
After signing on again with The Robins, Furness said “I really enjoyed my time at the club over the second half of last season so for me, it was a no-brainer to be part of this squad to help it develop and progress into the WSL.
“I came in last season and hopefully, I showed my leadership skills and experience in the short time I was here. I want to help as much as I can on and off the pitch as we make the transition up to the top flight.
“We’ve got a fantastic group of girls and a brilliant working environment.”
Furness is the eighth player to sign a contract extension at Bristol City this summer.
