Lewes have announced the news that their 2022/2023 top goalscorer Ellie Mason is leaving the club this summer.
The Rookettes announced the news via a post on their official club Twitter account this afternoon. Mason is leaving the club to pursue other opportunities.
Mason has provided Lewes with plenty of versatility during her time at The Dripping Pan. The player has spent most of her career operating in defence or midfield but she has found a new home this season in the Lewes attack. Mason netted nine goals in all competitions throughout the campaign including a four-goal haul against Cardiff City LFC in a 6-1 victory over the fourth tier outfit in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.
The player ended the 2022/2023 campaign having scored the Barclays Women’s Championship’s Goal of the Season while she was voted the Lewes Owners’ Player of the Season.
Mason is one of the Barclays Women’s Championship’s biggest success stories. The player has overcome long-term and niggling injuries earlier in her career to go on and flourish at Lewes. The Rookettes’ club captain featured in every league game in 2022/2023 and her departure is a big blow for the Sussex club.
We would like to wish all the best to Ellie Mason who will be leaving the club this summer to pursue other opportunities.
The 22/23 campaign saw her pick up the Golden Boot, Owners’ Player of the Year and the @BarclaysWC‘s Goal of the Season!
