England international keeper Hampton to leave Aston Villa

England international goalkeeper Hannah Hampton will leave Aston Villa when her contract comes to an end this summer.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Villans this morning.

Hampton has spent the last two seasons with Aston Villa after following head coach Carla Ward to the club from Birmingham City in summer 2021. The keeper has made 43 appearances for The Villans in all competitions over the two seasons that she has spent with the club.

After a challenging first half of the season in 2022/2023, Hampton bounced back and she has been in fine form so far in 2023. The player has been rewarded for her good performances in a claret and blue shirt with an England recall.

Despite enjoying a successful period at Aston Villa, Hampton has determined that the time is right to opt for a new challenge and the player will therefore leave the club when she becomes a free agent on 1 July. It is thought that the keeper could sign for a Barclays Women’s Super League rival with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United believed to be interested.

Today’s news means that Aston Villa boss Ward will enter the transfer market for a new goalkeeper this summer.
