Former Crystal Palace defender Waldie joins Hearts

Former Crystal Palace defender Lizzie Waldie has completed a move to Scottish Women’s Premier League 1 club Hearts.

The Jambos confirmed the transfer via a post on their official club website earlier today.

Waldie spent four seasons with Crystal Palace before opting to leave the club this summer at the end of her contract. The defender made 59 appearances for The Eagles in the Barclays Women’s Championship while she scored five goals. Waldie has played her part in Crystal Palace establishing themselves as a household name in the second tier in recent years.

It has today been reported that Waldie has signed a one-year deal with Hearts. The player has become The Jambos’ first signing of the summer transfer window.

Commenting on the signing of Waldie, Hearts boss Eva Olid said “I am delighted to get this signing over the line. Lizzie is a player we have been keen to secure for some time now as she has performed consistently for a number of seasons.

“Lizzie will provide us with a natural balance in our defence and I believe she possesses all the attributes required to reach the very top of the women’s game.

“I am very much looking forward to working and succeeding with her.”

Waldie joins a handful of former Barclays Women’s Championship players in moving north of the border to progress their careers.
